Its been awhile cents i last updated this and i have got alot done however i am taking my time. Scense the last time i updated this blog i have cut out the crappy roll cage, cleaned all the installation off of the frame throuout the car and also began cleaning up and painted some of the older parts thruought the hole car such as the gas tank, rims, exaust, and rear bumper/bar. Also i cleaned out the entire casing of the motor and am starting to look for parts i need for it. Unfortunately i forgot to take before and after pics of cleaning the casing.. I have alot more to do but i am making progress and am not yet sick of the car.

5/6/10

Since the last post I made a big decision and it was to go ahead and get another frame, shell, and floor plans because the original one was to far gone. So the pictures of it are above. I found it on craigslist for only $450 which in my opinion is a steal especially because the floor pans on it are brand new and still have tags on it. Other tan a few small spots of rust the hole thing is very clean and rust free. Other than a horrible paint job with over spray every where, this should be alot better of a start for the final car.

So on the 27th of April we got a bunch of work done on the bug. Cleaned out the inside a bunch with Zach, and got the motor off with the help of Derek and Curtis. Curtis is going to help a bunch rebuild the motor. So he took it home and tore it apart by the end of the week. Currently i have just the casing and i am in the process of cleaning it up. other than that there is a ton of rust every where.. after talking to a bunch of my more experienced friends and i am contemplating getting an entire new shell cause it is just about gone to far.. anyways there are pictures above of what we did on 4/27/10

First Day of Work on the Bug.

Today I finally started getting some real work done on the bug. Yesterday I took a quick look around the bug and saw some rust but nothing compared to what I found today. After tearing out all the carpet I found that almost the entire floor pan was rusted out. So after doing some research I found the two pans I need for around 100 bucks a piece. Getting the pans for both sides should take care of the majority of the rust. but there is still a lot underneath the side panels and in a few other pieces. So today I finished tearing out all the carpet, took out the gas tank, removed the headers and began taking of the motor so I could start working on rebuilding that. Also in the process of cleaning out all the spider webs, carpet, and rat crap, I found a dead rat! Over all today was a productive day and hopefully tomorrow I will have the motor all the way out.

Picked up the baja.

I picked up the bug today. Super stoked and know I realize I have a ton of work to do. Took us forever to get it onto the trailer because both tires where just about locked up and as flat as they could get. Here are some pictures of it up on the trailer. Its going to be a long process fixing it up but it should be very fun.

Restoring the baja.

I recently got a 1966 Volkswagen Baja Bug. My uncle, Mark has had it sitting in his backyard for the last 10 years and he is giving it to me for free! It should be a long, fun and interesting project me, my brother kyler, my friend Derek, and a few other friends. I have a few ideas in mind for what I want to do to it but I'm sure as the money is spend and the bug begins to evolve my ideas will change. Today i but up a temporary cover in my back yard to but the baja in. Tomorrow I'm going to go and pick the baja up. I'm going to try my hardest to take a lot of pictures and keep this blog updated until I have it finished. Feel free to let me know what you think.
Above is a general idea of what I would like mine to look like minus the roof rack.
